Nets Send Williams To D-League

New Jersey Nets' forward Sean Williams was assigned to the Colorado 14ers, the Nets? NBA Development League affiliate, announced today.  Williams is the 15th NBA player to be assigned to his NBA D-League affiliate this season and joins Sonny Weems and Cheikh Samb, both currently on assignment from the Denver Nuggets, on the 14ers roster.  

Drafted by the Nets with the 17th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, Williams has appeared in 16 games for New Jersey this season, averaging 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.1 minutes.   Williams appeared in 73 games for the Nets last season, 29 as a starter and averaged 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds.  

Williams, 6-10, was a three-year contributor at Boston College where he averaged 5.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 69 career games.  During his senior season, Williams averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.0 blocks in 15 games.

Josh Davis Named D-League Player Of The Week

Josh Davis of the Colorado 14ers has been named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 22, 2008.  Davis is the second member of the 14ers to earn the honor this season, joining teammate James Mays who was named Performer of the Week on Dec. 15.  

Davis led the 14ers to a 3-0 record this week, averaging 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting .632 (24-of-38) from the field. His best game came on Sunday, when he scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over the Tulsa 66ers. For the season, the 6-8 forward is averaging 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in eight games. The 14ers are in second place in the Southwest Division with an 8-3 record.

Spurs' Hairston Sent To D-League

San Antonio Spurs' forward Malik Hairston was today assigned to the Austin Toros, the Spurs' NBA D-League affiliate, announced today.  Hairston is the 13th player to be assigned from an NBA team to the NBA D-League this season.  

Originally selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, Hairston was traded to San Antonio where he spent 2008 training camp.  In six preseason games with the Spurs, Hairston averaged 5.3 points and 4.5 assists.  Hairston was waived by the Spurs on Oct. 26 before spending 11 games with the Toros and earning a GATORADE Call-Up to San Antonio on Dec. 22, and has not seen regular season action with Spurs this season.  

Hairston started in 11 Toros games this season and where he averaged 19.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals.  He twice scored a career-high 33 points, originally on Nov. 29 and again on Dec. 18 and was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 15.

Rockets Send Dorsey To D-League

Houston Rockets forward Joey Dorsey was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets? NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today.  Dorsey is the 14th player to be assigned from an NBA team to the NBA D-League this season.  

Originally selected in the second round, 33rd overall, of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, Dorsey was traded to Houston  on Draft night and appeared in three regular season games for the Rockets, scoring two points and grabbing one rebound.  In four preseason games, Dorsey averaged 3.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Malik Hairston Named D-League Player Of The Week, Signs With Spurs

Malik Hairston of the Austin Toros was today named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 15, 2008.  

In a related move, Hairston signed with the Spurs.

Hairston led the Toros to three straight wins this week, averaging 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while tying a season-high when he scored 33 points in Thursday's win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.  He finished the week 27-of-46 from the field (.587).  The Toros have now won six consecutive games.

James Mays Named D-League Player Of The Week

James Mays of the Colorado 14ers was named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 8, 2008.  He is the first rookie to earn Performer of the Week honors this season.  

Mays led Colorado to a 2-1 record this week while averaging 25.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. Mays' week was highlighted by a 37-point performance in a win over Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday.  His 37 points ties Tulsa?s Ronald Dupree and Joe Crawford of Los Angeles for most points scored in a game this season.

Nuggets Send Samb And Weems To D-League

The Denver Nuggets today assigned center Cheikh Samb and guard Sonny Weems to the team?s NBA Development League affiliate Colorado 14ers.  Samb and Weems become the 10th and 11th NBA players to be assigned to an NBA D-League team this season.

In six games for the Nuggets this season, Samb recorded four points, five blocks ,and nine rebounds in 23 minutes of action.  A member of the Detroit Pistons during the 2007-08 season, Samb averaged 1.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.50 blocks in 7.8 minutes.  No stranger to the NBA D-League, Samb was assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last season, where he averaged 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and a league-leading 4.0 blocks in 19 games.

Courtney Sims Named D-League Performer Of The Week

Courtney Sims of the Iowa Energy today was named the NBA D-league Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Nov. 24.  Sims becomes the first Energy player and the first player of the 2008-09 season to earn the weekly honor.  

In the season?s first two games for Iowa, both wins, Sims averaged a double-double of 22.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in addition to 8.0 blocks while shooting .542 (13-24) from the field. He opened the season with a triple-double on Friday against the Sioux Falls Skyforce, tallying 22 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. Sims' 11 blocks ties the NBA D-League single game record set by Cheikh Samb last season.
