Vander Blue Named D-League MVP

Los Angeles D-Fenders guard Vander Blue has been named the 2016-17 NBA Development League Most Valuable Player in a vote by the league’s 22 head coaches.

In his fourth season in the NBA D-League and his third with the D-Fenders, Blue ranked third in the league in scoring with 24.8 points per game and added 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a team-high 1.6 steals in 47 games (46 starts).  A two-time NBA D-League Player of the Week this season, Blue helped the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA D-League affiliate finish tied for the best record in the Western Conference at 34-16.  Los Angeles improved by seven victories from last season and posted the second-most wins in franchise history (38 in 2011-12).

This season, the three-time NBA D-League All-Star cracked the top 10 on the league’s all-time scoring list, finishing the season ranked third with 4,024 points.

Jerry Stackhouse Named D-League Coach Of The Year

Raptors 905’s Jerry Stackhouse has been named the NBA Development League Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year in a vote by his fellow NBA D-League head coaches.

Stackhouse, in his first season as a head coach, led Raptors 905 (39-11) to its first Central Division title and the top overall seed in the 2017 NBA D-League Playoffs. Raptors 905 opened the season 10-2 and posted winning streaks of 10 games (Jan. 6 – 31) and nine games (Feb. 9 – March 4). The team also set an NBA D-League record with 21 road victories.

Stackhouse was named head coach of Raptors 905 after serving as an assistant coach last season with the Toronto Raptors.

Edy Tavares Named D-League Defensive Player Of The Year

Raptors 905 center Edy Tavares, who received a Call-Up to the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 12, has been named the 2016-17 NBA Development League Defensive Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s 22 head coaches. 
 
Taveras (7-3, 265) appeared in 48 games for Raptors 905 this season, anchoring a defense that held opponents to a league-low 98.0 points per game and 42.8 percent shooting. Raptors 905 allowed 94.5 points per 100 possessions when Tavares was on the court.
 
Taveras tied for the NBA D-League lead with 2.7 blocks per game. On March 25, he recorded an NBA D-League season-high 12 blocks as part of a triple-double that included 15 points and 11 rebounds. He also averaged 10.6 points on 59.1 percent shooting (eighth in the league) and 7.7 rebounds.

Hawks Promote Malik Rose To GM Of Erie BayHawks

The Atlanta Hawks have promoted Malik Rose to general manager of the Erie BayHawks of the D-League. The Hawks are taking over the BayHawks next season and will relocate the team to College Park, George in 2019.

Rose will also continue in his role as manager of basketball operations for the Hawks.

Rose has spent the past two seasons in the Hawks’ front office in his current role.

Rose was a 13-year veteran in the NBA and has a Master’s degree in Sports Management.

Suns Sign Elijah Millsap To Multi-Year Contract

The Phoenix Suns have signed Elijah Millsap to a multi-year contract. The two-year NBA veteran played with the Northern Arizona Suns this season and was the Suns’ NBA Development League affiliate’s leading scorer.

A 6-6, 215-pound guard, Millsap averaged 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.4 minutes over 67 games in two seasons with the Utah Jazz from 2014-16. Millsap has six double-digit scoring performances in his NBA career with a high of 17 points versus the L.A. Lakers on Feb. 25, 2015.

The 49th GATORADE Call-Up in the NBA this season, Millsap averaged a team-high 19.7 points in addition to 7.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 50 games (all starts) with the NAZ Suns this season. The 29-year-old led the NAZ Suns with 13 double-doubles and had the highest-scoring game in team history with a career-high 38 points in the season finale at Reno on April 1. This marked Millsap’s sixth NBA D-League season as he also played with Tulsa in 2010-11, Los Angeles from 2011-14 and Bakersfield in 2014-15. A 2012 NBA D-League All-Star, Millsap has averaged 18.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 205 total D-League appearances.

Pelicans To Sign Axel Toupane

The New Orleans Pelicans will sign Axel Toupane from Raptors 905 of the D-League.

Toupane previously played for the Milwaukee Bucks this season and appeared in 21 games during the 15-16 season with the Denver Nuggets.

Toupane was averaging 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists this season in the D-League.

Larry Sanders Recalled By Cavaliers From D-League

The Cleveland Cavaliers have recalled center Larry Sanders from the Canton Charge.

Sanders has appeared in four games for the Charge this year, averaging 6.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 19.8 minutes per game.

Sanders has also played in two game for the Cavs this year.

Bucks Sign Gary Payton II To Multi-Year Contract

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Gary Payton II to a multi-year contract. 

Payton, 24, appeared in 49 games (all starts) with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League this season, and averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals in 32.7 minutes per game while shooting 49.8 percent from the field.

A 6-3 guard, Payton went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft after playing two seasons at Oregon State. Payton averaged 14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.8 steals in 63 games with the Beavers and became the first player to be voted Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year two times. He was also an All-Pac-12 First Team selection during both of his seasons at Oregon State.

Magic To Sign Marcus Georges-Hunt

The Orlando Magic have agreed to sign Marcus Georges-Hunt from the Maine Red Claws of the D-League.

Georges-Hunt was averaging 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists over 45 games in the D-League.

Georges-Hunt was previously on the rosters of the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics but has yet to appear in a regular season game.

The 76ers will sign Alex Poythress of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

The 76ers recently ruled out both Robert Covington and Jahlil Okafor for the remainder of the season. Joel Embiid had already been ruled out.
