Ekpe Udoh Considering NBA Return After Successful Season In Turkey

Jun 27, 2016 11:38 AM

Ekpe Udoh is interested in a return to the NBA after a successful season with Fenerbahce in Turkey.

Udoh has set a deadline early in July free agency to decide the best offer from six NBA teams and two elite Euroleague clubs, Fenerbahce and CSKA Moscow.

“It’s definitely a possibility to come back to the NBA,” Udoh told The Vertical. “I can see myself fitting back today. I have lowered my weight to 240, so I’m even more mobile. I protect the rim, get out in transition and I’m able to play with any team and guard one through five.

“That was a big focal point around the NBA this past season, finishing off the pick-and-roll or hitting the open man. I can fit back in the NBA with whatever decision that I make.”

Udoh was the sixth overall pick by the Golden State Warriors out of Baylor in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Udoh averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds in 27.3 minutes in Euroleague.

“Spending this season with Fenerbahce was critical,” Udoh said. “After the previous two years in the NBA, it was difficult to go through injuries and not receiving the chance to play my game. Fenerbahce allowed me to be aggressive, and I got to play for a great coach in [Zeljko] Obradovic. I got to play a lot of minutes and keep my body in shape.

“That was the best thing for my career, bringing back the love and understanding how hard I need to work to be in elite shape.”

Willy Hernangomez plans to join the New York Knicks on a multiyear contract this summer, his agent Andy Miller said.

“It is my intent to reach an agreement with the Knicks and have Willy come to New York for next season and beyond,” Miller said.

The Knicks acquired the draft rights to Hernangomez last draft night after he was picked 35th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hernangomez shares the same agent as Kristaps Porzingis.

Alessandro Gentile Hoping To Sign With Rockets

Jun 21, 2016 7:38 PM

Alessandro Gentile, one of the Euroleague’s top wing players, is determined to sign an NBA deal this summer, preferably with the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets hired Mike D'Antoni as head coach this offseason and his presence makes the team more appealing to Gentile.

The Rockets own the draft rights to Gentile, a 6-foot-7 perimeter player who was the No. 53 overall pick by Minnesota in 2014.

“My goal is to play in the NBA next year,” Gentile told The Vertical. “I really hope this can happen. For me, Mike D’Antoni is like a legend in Italian basketball, an example for everyone. For him to coach me would be very, very nice.”

Gentile wants to negotiate a deal to join the Rockets. Houston has significant interest in bringing him over this season, but is likely to preserve salary cap space for the start of July free agency before committing to a contract with Gentile, league sources said.

“I have had a chance to grow up in the last year, playing as a captain for an important team like Milan and winning two championships as a leader of the team,” Gentile told The Vertical. “That’s all helped me to improve. The moment is right for me. I’d like to have the chance to try and play in [the NBA].”

Suns To Enter Contract Talks With Bogdan Bogdanovic

Jun 15, 2016 1:46 PM

The Phoenix Suns will enter negotiations with Bogdan Bogdanovic to bring him over to the NBA.

This is the last year that Bogdanovic would be required to sign on the NBA rookie scale as the Suns' No. 27 draft pick in 2014. That contract could pay him up to $5.7 million over four years, including two team options. The Suns are allowed to contribute as much as $650,000 toward Bogdanovic's buyout from Fenerbahce with Bogdanovic paying the remainder.

If Bogdanovic does not sign with the Suns this year, they would retain his rights in 2017 but Bogdanovic could then negotiate a contract for any amount with the minimum being his draft year's rookie salary scale.

Ryan McDonough said the Suns would allow Bogdanovic to have a few days after the Turkish League finals were complete before they talked to him by phone to "figure out before the draft if he's going to come over for next season."

76ers Still Hopeful Of Bringing Over Dario Saric For 16-17

Jun 14, 2016 12:02 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers remain hopeful of bringing Dario Saric over for the 16-17 season.

Bryan Colangelo and Brett Brown met with Saric and his agent in Turkey on Wednesday.

“The timing of him coming to the NBA is still in question,” Colangelo told NBA.com Friday while in Treviso, Italy at the addidas Eurocamp.

Colangelo tried to clarify what he told the website on Monday when he was back in Philadelphia.

“It wasn’t pessimistic. It wasn’t optimistic,” he said. "It was somewhat neutral as to whether or not I felt he would be coming over. I still feel that way.

“I’d like to think our objectives are aligned. What we would like to do is get him in to play for us next year.”

Zhou Qi Reaches Buyout Agreement To Allow Him To Join NBA In 2017

Jun 10, 2016 4:04 PM

Zhou Qi has reached an agreement with his Chinese team, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, that will allow him to buy out his contract and join the NBA in 2017, his agent Alex Saratsis confirmed.

After much back and forth, Zhou’s representation in China and the U.S. secured a buyout that will allow him out of his contract at the conclusion of next season for the maximum league mandated amount permitted, which is $650,000. With that hurdle now past him, Zhou will look to find an NBA team that will guarantee to select him in a favorable spot, likely in the first round after one more season in China.

Zhou could also decide to withdraw from this year’s draft and try to improve his standing in 2017.

Zhou is ranked 31st in the 2016 class by Draft Express.
