No Changes In Anthony Bennett's Recruiting Situation

Nov 30, 2011 8:59 PM

Canadian-born Anthony Bennett continues to consider various colleges and isn't expected to make a decision until the spring.

Bennett recently visited Kentucky and continues to consider UNLV, Florida, Washington, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Connecticut and Oregon.

“All [the] schools in my top nine are all calling me, but right now I’m just answering a few calls [and] just trying to stay focused in school,” said Bennett of how his recruitment is going. “Like I said before [I have] no favorites. I feel like all the schools are putting a lot of time and effort trying to recruit me to come to their school.”

Duke Hopes Julius Randle Follows AAU Teammate Matt Jones

Nov 29, 2011 11:28 AM

Matt Jones committed to Duke on Monday and it begs the question if his AAU teammate Julius Randle may follow.

Randle is the No. 3 member of the class of 2013.

“Honestly, I’m happy for Matt,” Randle said. “As for me though, I have to do what’s best for me and find the best fit. I know Matt pretty well and I don’t think he’s going to put pressure on me. He’ll tell me that if don’t go to Duke he’ll love me either way.”

Jones will try to convince Randle to join him on Duke.

“You know I’m definitely going after that guy,” Jones said of Randle. “When me and Julius talk we try and get away from basketball. I might have to try and slide Duke in there every once in a while but he’ll have to make his decision like I made mine.”

Muhammad, Parker Considering Teaming Up For Duke

Nov 29, 2011 1:01 AM

Shabazz Muhammad recently spoke about the possibility of teaming up with Tony Parker on Duke.

"Tony's a good guy, man," Muhammad said. "He's really good for his size. He's so mobile for his size. I mean, huge. Coach K really wants him also, so I mean me and him in the same program would be a really good thing and we would win a lot of games."

Muhammad is the consensus top player of the 2012 class, while Parker is one of the leading big men.

If Muhammad plays for Duke, he would fit their classic small forward role that has been successfully filled by Grant Hill, Corey Maggette and Shane Battier.

"They talked to me about fitting in well," Muhammad said of the Duke staff. "I would play a guard position, two, three, maybe a little one. They have their guards run the offense because that's what's great about their team. Just looking really at their offense, they can really fit me a lot of places and make me successful for the future if I go there."

Nov 28, 2011 1:21 PM

Kentucky, Auburn and the soon to be added Missouri Tigers have been declared the recruiting winners for the early signing period of the 2012 incoming class.

Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress and Willie Cauley are committed to Kentucky.

Auburn will add Jordan Price and Shaquille Johnson. Price is a talented scoring guard, while Johnson may be the most athletic big in the class.

Missouri doesn't have as much high end talent, but their group is seven players strong.

Georgia is considered a loser at this junction. They were unable to land any of their in-state talent amongst a group that includes Shaq Goodwin, Robert Carter, Tony Parker, Jordan Adams, Jordan Price.

Shabazz Muhammad Surprised When Coaches Mispronounce Name

Nov 19, 2011 1:52 PM

Shabazz Muhammad has been surprised that coaches attempting to recruit him have mispronounced his name.

“I absolutely can’t stand when people in general pronounce my name wrong,” said Muhammad. “But when coaches do it, it’s really surprising honestly. Throughout my recruitment it’s happened a lot, but a school that just keeps on doing it, they’re pretty much off the list.”

Muhammad, who is the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2012, is considering UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, TexasA&M, Arizona and UNLV.

“I’m used to it because people mispronounce my name all the time,” said Muhammad, a senior swingman at Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). “I understand because of the spelling of it so I’ll let it slide if it’s once or twice, but I’ll politely correct them if it goes past that. But coaches recruiting me, I’d think they would get it right. Seems like you’d want to get that right.”

Kentucky and Kansas have mispronounced his first name, with Shabazz being pronounced Shuh-BOZZ.

“Coach (Bill) Self said it wrong when I went there at Kansas, and I think he realized it pretty quick and changed it to the right pronunciation,” Muhammad said. “Then one of the assistants at Kentucky said it wrong on a visit and Coach (John) Calipari said it the right way real quick. Then the assistant caught on after that.”
