Varnado Hospitalized After Morning Workout

Jarvis Varnado, one of the college basketball's best shotblockers, is in the hospital undergoing tests after falling ill during a morning workout.

Varnado felt nauseous and was first taken to a doctor Monday before being moved to a hospital in Tupelo for tests.

Though the illness is not considered serious, a spokesman says the school is taking "every precautionary measure."

RealGM Note: Varnado is expected to be a second round pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Gillispie Arrested On DUI Charge

Billy Gillispie was charged with driving under the influence early Thursday after police who pulled him over said his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol.

Gillispie is the former head coach of Kentucky.

A police report said the arrest happened at 2:47 a.m. along a highway in Lawrenceburg, which is about 30 miles from Lexington where Gillispie coached the Wildcats until earlier this year.

Pitino Speaks Out About Accusations

Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino said video aired Wednesday of a police interview with a woman at the heart of sex and extortion scandal surrounding Pitino revived a ?total fabrication of the truth,? as reported by the Associated Press.

Against his lawyer?s advice, Pitino said he felt he needed to speak out.

?Everything that?s been printed, everything that?s been reported, everything that?s been breaking in the news on the day Ted Kennedy died is 100 percent a lie, a lie,? Pitino said in a hastily called news conference. ?All of this has been a lie, a total fabrication of the truth.?

Isiah Gets North Carolina In NCAA Coaching Debut

Isiah Thomas will make his collegiate coaching debut at North Carolina on November 9th.

Thomas was named head coach of FIU last spring.

Thomas is under a five-year contract.

Report: Memphis To Vacate 2007-08 Final Four Season

According to a Memphis Commercial Appeal report, the Memphis men's basketball program will be forced to vacate the record 38 victories from its Final Four season of 2007-08.

The newspaper, citing a source close to the situation, said on its Web site Wednesday night that the NCAA will release findings of its investigation into violations committed by the program Thursday.

Report: Pitino Tells Police He Paid For Abortion

Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino told police he had sex with a woman accused of trying to extort him of $10M and later paid for her abortion, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville published on its Web site that Pitino told police he had been drinking in a Louisville restaurant and had consensual sex with Karen Sypher in August 2003. The police report said the coach denied Sypher?s allegations that he raped her after the restaurant closed and another time somewhere else.
