Purdue's Hummel Tears ACL Again

Oct 16, 2010 1:14 PM

Robbie Hummel will miss the 2010-11 season after tearing the same ACL that sidelined him for much of last season.

Hummel suffered the right-knee injury in practice.

"This is obviously disappointing for Robbie, as well as our team, since he worked so hard to return from the tear he suffered in February," Purdue coach Matt Painter said. "As he begins his rehab and recovery, we'll persevere together and provide Robbie with all the support possible. I have no doubt he'll continue to play a pivotal role this season as a leader of our team."

Sullinger Brings Different Game To Ohio State Than Oden

Oct 15, 2010 1:49 AM

While Jared Sullinger doesn't come to Ohio State with the kind of hype that surrounded Greg Oden, he is still a freshman prominent on the national stage.

"That's not who Jared is," Thad Matta said of the Oden comparisons. "But he's productive in a lot of other ways of getting numbers."

"Physically, he's already like a college senior," OSU assistant coach Jeff Boals said Thursday. "Jared has always had a great feel for the game. He's one of those guys that sees stuff happening before it happens."

Kentucky's Kanter To Sit While NCAA Investigates

Oct 1, 2010 9:16 PM

Enes Kanter practiced with his Kentucky teammates on Thursday and the school is hoping he will be allowed to practice next week.

To do that, Kanter will need to get another waiver from the NCAA while his amateur status is being investigated, Kentucky spokesperson DeWayne Peevy told ESPN.com Friday.

Calipari said he fully believes Kanter is an amateur.

The NCAA is reviewing the 6-foot-11 center's eligibility based on whether he received expenses beyond what is considered necessary while playing for a club team in Turkey in 2008-09 prior to his year in an American high school.

Kentucky has contended that Kanter chose not to play for the Turkish national team and turn down a separate professional contract.

Knight Embraces Comparisons To Calipari's Former Players

Oct 1, 2010 10:53 AM

Over the past three seasons, John Calipari has coached Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and John Wall during their freshman seasons. Rose and Evans went on to win the Rookie of the Year award and Wall is considered the prohibitive favorite in 10-11.

Calipari's new elite freshman is Brandon Knight, who has embraced comparisons to those players.

?I've been getting (the comparisons) already, and I kind of embrace them,? Knight said. ?Being compared to them, to me, is a positive. Those are guys who are doing great things at the next level right now.?
