Jabari Parker Will Not Sign Early

Oct 16, 2012 11:53 PM

Jabari Parker is not planning to sign a letter of intent during the early signing period, which runs from Nov. 14-21.

“He’ll probably make a verbal decision, but he probably won’t be able to sign until the spring because the signing period,” Parker's father Sonny Parker said. “ … I don’t think he’ll be done with all his five visits.

“The only way it can happen is if he decides early during his five visits.”

Parker's high school coach expects him to be resolute with his decision.

“Once he makes a decision I know that’s going to be it,” Simeon head coach Robert Smith said Tuesday. “That’s not how he or his family operates.

“I told him, if you get to a place where your heart is in it and you feel like this is the place for me, then there’s no sense in taking those other visits, if this is how you feel. … Make sure you choose what is going to be best for you.

“His situation is rare. You have options. A lot of people don’t have options. And people will wait for your options, too.”

West Virginia Redoing Contract Of Bob Huggins

Oct 12, 2012 11:25 PM

West Virginia is restructuring Bob Huggins’ contract, which was agreed to in 2008.

Athletic Director Oliver Luck said the school is "looking at adding to both the length and the compensation."

Huggins’ current contract runs through the 2019 season and will pay him $2.3 million for the upcoming season.

"I want to do this as long as I'm excited about doing it, as long as I feel like I can bring the kind of passion to it that I've always brought," Huggins said. "When it comes to where I say, 'I just don't want to go in there and do this,' I need to quit."

Jabari Parker Uncertain Of Mormon Mission

Oct 9, 2012 9:38 AM

Jabari Parker could be affected by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' recent decision to lower the age minimum for men to serve a mission, his father said Monday.

The new minimum age requirement for church members' missions is 18 if they are a high school graduate, a change that would allow Parker to become a full-time missionary right after high school.

"When he's 18 and if he did want to go on a mission, he can now," Parker's father, Sonny Parker, said Monday. "He has to decide whether or not (he wants to). He hasn't decided one way or another. We've talked about it.

"If he's going at 18, he would go to a mission and then possibly go to college or to the NBA. I know his situation is different than a lot of people. We'll just see."

Jabari’s brother, Christian, served a mission after playing basketball at BYU-Hawaii.

"When he came from his mission, we talked a lot about it," Jabari Parker told Sports Illustrated in May. "I want to go (on a mission). But I have doubts. The NBA is the biggest dream of basketball players, and I'm no different."

Wiggins Might Not Visit Kentucky This Weekend

Oct 8, 2012 10:46 PM

Andrew Wiggins might not attend Kentucky's Big Blue Madness event this weekend.

"We're still not exactly sure what Andrew is going to do this weekend," Wiggins’ high school coach, Rob Fulford said. "He had told John (Calipari) that he would be coming to their midnight madness event when they were down here a few weeks ago. I've heard all the reports out there, but Andrew hasn't told me that anything has changed."

Wiggins may instead travel to his hometown of Toronto to spend time with family.

"The issue is that we have an extended weekend here for their fall break," said Fulford, "I don't know if he's going home or not but I know that he was trying to figure out if he was going to be able to find a way to get home to Canada.

"With our fall break this weekend and practice starting next week this might be the last chance that he'll have to come home until the season ends. He hasn't given me any indication yet that he's going home this weekend, but obviously he wants to see his family."

Some have speculated Wiggins will return home to make his classification decision.

"First of all, it's difficult for me to comment accurately because that decision is going to be determined solely by Andrew and his parents. I can't even tell you for sure if they've had a formal discussion about it yet," said Fulford, "Whenever he lets us know we'll let everyone else know. It could be tomorrow, the end of this coming weekend or not until the spring."

Jabari Parker Reveals Final Five Of BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Stanford

Oct 5, 2012 7:17 PM

Jabari Parker has reduced his list of college choices to BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.

Parker in July had revealed a list of 10 schools he was considering, which included DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Parker is the top recruit of the 2013 class.

"He thought about it and looked at the programs. That's the five he had," Simeon coach Robert Smith said Friday. "It took him a long time to find. Everyone was really good, but he had to make a decision. He really respected everyone recruiting him and wanted to thank them for their time. He knew he couldn't make everyone happy.

"He's just ready to go out and visit the campuses and get a real feel for the players and the campuses. Him, his family and myself will sit down and see what he comes up with. This is Jabari's decision. We're just making sure he's being guided. I tell him to follow his heart."
