The NLCS will kick off Thursday night as the Phillies host the Dodgers. I’d love to see Manny Ramirez take on the Red Sox in the World Series, but I’d prefer to see Philadelphia reach the Promised Land.

The Cavaliers considered dealing for forward Jermaine O’Neal this summer when Larry Bird made it known that Indiana’s roster was available. I think the Pacers got a better deal from Toronto than they would have from Cleveland, but one never knows.

The Clippers have promoted Coach Mike Dunleavy to the role of general manager as Elgin Baylor enters retirement. The move could be a good thing for Los Angeles, now about that Donald Sterling character.

How Will He Look In That? - Make sure you enter now, because I’ll begin selecting winners soon.

J.J. Redick is happy to have another year of security in Orlando after the team picked up his 2009-10 option. I really think he could break out this season, but Coach Stan Van Gundy will have to give him enough time to do so.

News out of Chicago is that Derrick Rose has been the most impressive member of the team during training camp. That’s quite the claim, considering the presence of guys like Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, and Kirk Hinrich on the roster. Rookie of the Year…?

Amare Stoudemire is adjusting to goggles on the court this preseason after deciding to don them as a precaution following an injury to his eye during training camp. Phoenix could use a Horace Grant-type player, but I think Stoudemire has higher aspirations than that.

Barry Bonds says that he is enjoying his break from baseball, but his comments in San Francisco a month or so ago indicate that he still wants to play. I just finished reading ‘Juicing The Game’ by Howard Bryant , and he does a great job of highlighting Bonds as a Hall of Fame player who made some poor decisions.

Cubs' outfielder Kosuke Fukudome admitted earlier this week that he needs to perform better in Chicago next season. He started off red-hot in 2008, and hopefully, he’ll have a more balanced season next year with some experience under his belt.

Speaking of the Cubbies, Rich Harden was set to see a shoulder specialist on Wednesday as Chicago waits to decide what to do with the $7 million option on his contract. After an encouraging test, the Cubs have rightfully extended his contract.

The 49ers could be interested in T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Roy Williams soon. T.J. will become a free agent at the end of the season while San Francisco could contact Detroit about Roy before next week’s trading deadline. A top receiver could really provide a nice blanket for J.T. O’Sullivan, assuming he remains the man through 2009.

Terrell Owens admitted on Tuesday that he was crying on the sideline this Sunday because of a death in his family. My condolences, but doesn’t he always seem to have something effecting him emotionally?

Detroit cornerback Leigh Bodden says that the Lions haven’t been able to stop anyone so far this season, which is pretty darn true. They have allowed the most points (tied with the Rams) despite playing only four games.

The RealGM NFL Player Rankings Through Week Five, by Christopher Reina.

Steelers' linebacker James Harrison has been fined $20,000 for his comments about referees following this Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. I suppose he accomplished the opposite of what he was looking to do.

The Flyers were defeated by their AHL affiliate, the Phantoms, on Tuesday night, which might not bode well for them heading into the regular season.
