Manny remained hot, but the Phillies were victorious on Thursday night. Now, the Rays just have to keep the Red Sox in check this weekend.

Portland guard Martell Webster fractured his foot earlier this week against Sacramento. The Blazers will decide what the best course of action will be before putting a timetable on his return. It’s a shame because he was primed to start at the beginning of the season.

Speaking of injures, Miami’s Jamaal Magloire fractured his left hand in a preseason game against New Jersey on Thursday. Pretty soon pundits are going to start calling for a shorter exhibition schedule in October.

2008-09 Season Preview: Southeast Division, by Jason M. Williams.

The Pacers are still aggressively trying to trade point guard Jamaal Tinsley. It’s getting dangerously close to the beginning of the season, and it’ll be interesting to see how things will unfold if Indiana doesn’t find another home for him.

Shaquille O’Neal apologized to Kobe Bryant following the release of a viral video of a freestyle rap a few months ago. Kobe reportedly accepted the apology, and the former teammates have “moved on”. We’ll see what happens in mid-November when the Suns welcome the Lakers to town.

Daniel Gibson says that he never really considered leaving the Cavaliers this summer via free agency, and he also used his father as his main negotiator in contract talks. Sounds like his dad is a decent business man.

The Yankees plan to use their new stadium while courting CC Sabathia this winter. New York seems to believe that Sabathia wants to head home to California, so they will give him a personal tour of the new stadium at some point. Is that really going to make a difference?

Dick Vitale will throw out the first pitch in Game 2 of the ALCS in Tampa Bay this weekend. It might seem rather strange, but Vitale has been a longtime season ticket holder, an anomaly for the Rays.

Auditing The 2008 Season: San Francisco Giants, by Christopher Reina.

Jeff Francoeur says that he will not struggle again the way he did with the Braves in 2008. He had an absolutely abysmal season in Atlanta, striking out seemingly every at-bat. He ruined many a fantasy team this season, just ask my good buddy Chappi.

Scott Boras has refuted a report that Manny Ramirez wants roughly $85 million over five years. Rather, Manny is still looking for more than $20 million per year this winter. He has been the biggest story of the postseason – bigger than the small market Rays and the defending champion Red Sox – and I’m sure someone will shell out “too much” for him this offseason.

Lane Kiffin is reportedly still calling Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, as the QB cited a conversation they had after the Vikings-Saints game on Monday night. To me it seems a little strange, but I suppose the two could have a legitimate friendship.

Football Meteorology For Week 6, by Jeff Risdon.

Brett Favre is rumored to have placed a dead wild turkey in the locker of a teammate recently. It sounds like something Favre would do, but I find his fart jokes to be a bit funnier.

Teams With Two-RBs Win More Often Than Those With A Featured Back, by A.P.

Cowboys' cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was reportedly involved in an altercation with his personal bodyguard at a hotel in downtown Dallas late on Tuesday night. The Cowboys say he’ll still play on Sunday, but this could be the beginning of the end for Jones with the team.

Giving Rodgers Better Tools, by Nicole Haase.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell believes that the city of San Antonio is on track to perhaps receive an expansion team in the future. If I lived in S.A., I wouldn’t get too excited. I’d say there are a few cities (L.A.) ahead in the queue.
