Barcelona defeated Olympiacos last year in Paris to win the 2010 Euroleague. The reigning champs struggled in the regular season, going 7-3, but Barcelona remains extremely strong and are the sentimental favorites as hosts of the eventual Final Four at Palau Sant Jordi.

Below are RealGM's rankings going into the Top-16:

16. Zalgris: Paulius Jankunas led the regular season in rebounds, but Ilias Zouros is decidedly short on talent. We'll see if Omar Samhan can crack his way into the rotation.

15. Lietuvos Rytas: They are at the only team in the Top 16 who didn't at least finish with a .500 record, but their total point differential of -5 was better than Malaga, Roma, Istanbul, Valencia, Belgrade and Zalgris. They are a longshot, but I'll give them the benefit of being more Latrell Sprewell (15) than Pau Gasol (16).

14. Unicaja: Unless Joel Freeland can play over his head, there is little hope of Malaga getting past Panathianikos and Caja Laboral.

13. Lottomatica Roma: This is a team that went 5-5 in the regular season, with a -37 point differential, is lean on talent and is in a killer group. The odds of seeing Vladimir Dasic in the next round are extremely thin.

12. Efes Pilsen Istanbul: The addition of Flip Murray can change things, but they are a long ways from Siena and Madrid in terms of talent.

11. Partizan Belgrade: This team went just 5-5 in the regular season, but Jan Vesly has a ton to play for and I like what James Gist and Curtis Jerrells are capable of here.

10. Fenerbache Ulker: We'll see how much Sarunas Jasikevicius has left in the tank, even if the team belongs to Roko Ukic.

9. Power Electronics Valencia: They are ranked third in Group H by Erildas Budraitis, but I prefer their mix of younger talent in Victor Claver, Nando de Colo and J.R. Giddens. They don't have enough there to win it all, but Svetislav Pesic has a lot to work with to overachieve.

8. Union Olimpija: Despite going 6-4, Jure Zdovc's team outscored opponents by a cumulative total of six points. This is a team that will grind in a difficult Group F where Maccabi and Barcelona should advance.

7. Caja Laboral: Marcelinho Huertas was the regular season leader in assists and the team has consistently done well in Euroleague. They have also won ACB in two of the past three seasons.

6. Montepaschi Siena: Bo McCalebb and company had the highest point differential in the regular season, outscoring opponents by a total of 126 points as they finished with an 8-2 record.

5. Real Madrid: Ettore Messina's frontline is one of the best in the tournament and the guard play (Sergio Rodriguez/Llull) has the capacity to be outstanding. I'm particularly interested in seeing the development of Llull.

4. Maccabi: David Blatt's team went 9-1 during the regular season, but lacks some of the star power held by the other true contenders. My worry is that they may have peaked too soon in the competition.

3. Panathinaikos: Dimitris Diamantidis is playing excellent basketball right now, as is his backcourt make Drew Nicholas. They went 7-3 in the regular season and a relatively easy Group E.

2. Olympiacos: Group H shouldn't be too challenging and feature two of Euroleague's best players in Vassilis Spanoulis and Milos Teodosic. Their frontcourt isn't outstanding, but is plenty experienced.

1. Regal Barcelona: The 7-3 record was a disappointment, which reveals the expectations upon Xavier Pascual's team. They have the best overall talent and Juan Carlos Navarro is a proven finisher. The play of Ricky Rubio, Fran Vazquez and Erazem Lorbek will be intriguing to watch on this stage.
