Tariq Abdul-Wahad and Evan Eschmeyer have been excused from the start of Mavericks’ training camp for medical reasons due to knee pain.

Donnie Nelson said that Eschmeyer will likely not take part in the training camp, while he is unsure if Abdul-Wahad will be able to participate at all. If not, the Mavericks may be able to buyout the remainder of his contract, totaling $6.75 million this season.

The Mavericks have 17 guaranteed contracts heading into camp. Only 12 players can be on the active roster, with three others eligible for the injured list.
