Isiah Allegedly Asked Dancer To Flirt With Refs

The former Knicks executive who is suing Isiah Thomas for sexual harassment alleged in court papers that Thomas urged a cheerleader to flirt with referees and guard Stephon Marbury cursed at her, according to newspaper reports Saturday.

Anucha Browne Sanders, a former senior vice president of marketing and business operations, filed documents to answer the Knicks' attempt to have her lawsuit dismissed.

In the papers, which were unsealed Friday, Browne Sanders alleges cheerleader Petra Pope told her that Thomas encouraged Pope to flirt with officials before a game against the Nets in 2004, the Daily News reported.

"What she told me was that Isiah asked her to go into the referees' locker room and make them happy," Browne Sanders testified.

She also claimed in the documents that Marbury directed an obscenity at her after she complained about the player's cousin -- who was also employed by the team -- had made graphic sexual comments to her staff, the Daily News reported.

Monday Press Conference For New Knicks

The Knicks have announced a Monday, 4:00 PM EDT press conference at the team's Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh, New York.

Isiah Thomas will present Zach Randolph as the newest Knick acquisition. Randolph was acquired in a draft-day deal in exchange for Channing Frye and Steve Francis.

The Knicks' press release indicates that Dan Dickau and Fred Jones will also be in attendance on Monday, which may mean that the team has no immediate plan to release or otherwise rid itself of either player.

Isiah Talks About Draft-Day Deal

Mike Dougherty of the Journal News reports on the conference call with Isiah Thomas in which he discussed his draft-day trade to acquire Zach Randolph. The full text with Dougherty's commentary can be accessed by the link below.

Q: How do you balance the obvious talent Randolph possesses with the questionable character?

A: "We’ll address those issues if they arise. I look at him when he comes here, it’s a clean slate. I’ve heard it mentioned that New York is this bad place and I’d like to take a moment and defend New York because this is not the place people come to and automatically get in trouble .... I’m looking forward to coaching him."

Q: How is Randolph going to fit in alongside Eddy Curry?

A: "It’s safe to say the ball will be in one of their hands most every time down the court. We’ll throw the ball inside. Either it’ll be in Eddy’s hands on one side or it will be in Zach’s on the other. The thing that’s intriguing thing about Zach is he can step out and he has a great mid-range game so he can hit the midrange shot. He’s a good passer out of double teams. We got 3-point shooters that can really knock down 3s. Offensively, we’ll have a well-balanced attack. The thing we’ve got to do better at on the defensive side is defending the 3-point line, which we’ll be better at."

Q: Did you need to run this by Knicks owner James Dolan first?

A: "We have to run by and sell everything to our owner. Everything that we do, we run past Jim and we have to get it OK’d by him before we can go and do anything, so he was definitely in the loop. With Zach, I like that player, I like what we’re getting. I’ve had a lot of success with players in this league, and I believe in him as a player. He’s made some mistakes as a young man, but I think we can get him on the right path here and he’ll be fine."

Q: You were going to have cap space in two years, but adding Randolph prevents that, why the change?

A: "The player that we have now is a young player. I think as time progresses, we have the player now as opposed to having him three to four years from now. We have an opportunity to better ourselves and be good right now and I do think the better players in the league want to play with other good players and play for good teams."
