The two-time MVP returned from a six-game layoff to play 15 minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, but didn't play against Golden State on Friday. Duncan participated in light drills during the Spurs' shootaround on Saturday, but wasn't ready for game time. Duncan is the NBA's seventh-leading scorer with 22.9 points per game, and his 12.8 rebounds rank third. The Spurs have no plans to put Duncan on the injured list, coach Gregg Popovich said earlier. Duncan, the team's top scorer and rebounder, had an irritation of the left patellofemoral joint, where the thigh bone connects to the knee. He was injured in the third quarter of the Spurs' 115-91 loss in Dallas on Feb. 26. In his absence, San Antonio went 4-2, including wins over Minnesota and Dallas. The Spurs, who use a set offense with Duncan, played more of an up tempo and transition game without him and spread the scoring around. Point guard Tony Parker averaged 19.5 points and swingman Hedo Turkoglu averaged 16.7 points without Duncan. Center Rasho Nesterovic posted double-doubles in points and rebounds in all six games that Duncan missed. To make room for Duncan, San Antonio placed guard Matt Carroll on the injured list with left knee tendinitis.
