HIGHLIGHTS: A 9-0 run to start the game, aided by four points by Vin Baker
and a 3-point basket by Brent Barry.
LOWLIGHTS: Two technical fouls, one in the fourth quarter from Gary Payton
for swearing at the referee, and one by coach Nate McMillan midway through
the third. Detroit converted both of the resulting free throws.
BROTHER VS. BROTHER: Don't think a sibling rivalry doesn't exist between
Brent and Pistons guard Jon Barry. Jon held court before Wednesday's game and revealed he has an 8-3 record against his younger brother. After the game, Brent made his comment. "Now I have to go talk to my brother, who just
kicked my (butt)," he said. For the record, Brent, a starting guard, finished with 17 points and six rebounds, while Jon managed 11 points and three rebounds
coming off the bench.
HE TALKS A GOOD GAME: Pistons coach Rick Carlisle was a Sonics broadcaster last year. One of the oddities in Detroit this year: Jerry Stackhouse, who normally can take a game over with his offense, has acted more like a piston than the complete engine. "It's a new era," Brent Barry said. "Coach Carlisle is doing a good job of having (Stackhouse) buy into a new system. Good teams win in the NBA, not good players."
