"Doc Rivers was fired as coach of the Orlando Magic and replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Johnny Davis, the Orlando Sentinel learned early Tuesday."
"It's happened, and I'm helping Johnny get ready to take over,'' Rivers said about three hours after the game. "I have no ax to grind. I thought the management and team were both great. I couldn't ask for anything more."
There have been some reports that Davis has received a multi-year deal to coach the team.
