The Boston Herald is reporting that Danny Ainge has been in contact with GM's across the league, attempting to trade point guard Gary Payton.
It is believed that Payton would like to return to the Western Conference.
``It's tough,'' Rivers said. ``I don't think that will be resolved until the year's over. I think it's going to be a tough call for (Ainge). It's going to be an easy call for us. We know what we want to do. We want Gary back. I can tell you that without any thought or hesitation. But I'm going to do what's right for the team, and I want to do what's right for Gary at the same time. He's been so good. The best scenario to me is signing a free agent, making a nice trade and having a great draft. Then all of a sudden people would look at us as one of the favorites, and then Gary could really want to be in that situation. So the quicker we can get better, the more it benefits us with Gary Payton.''
