A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed that there is no extension forthcoming from the Warriors for point guard Baron Davis, who told the Boston Globe last week that in the absence of a new deal by Monday, he will plan on exercising his option to become a free agent next summer.

Davis still has two seasons left on the $84 million, six-year extension he signed with the New Orleans Hornets in 2002, but if he's willing to forfeit his guaranteed salary of $17.2 million in 2008-09, he can gain his freedom.

"If there's nothing (contract-wise) and I have to play, I have to play," Davis, who was not available for comment Saturday, told the Times earlier this summer. "The way I look at it is, I have two years left on my contract. If there's an extension offered this year or next year, this is a place that I love. (But) I would like to know what my future is."
