Jeff Capel has been fired as Oklahoma basketball coach.
Capel's buyout is expected to be between $2 million and $3 million.
"We just felt we couldn't afford to sit here and wait another season," the university source told The Oklahoman.
Capel coached the 2009 Sooners to an NCAA Regional championship game, but OU has finished 13-18 and 14-18 the last two seasons.
