Donnie Walsh is taking blame for New York's inconsistent start since acquiring Carmelo Anthony ahead of February's trade deadline.

"I feel more responsible than the players or the coaches because I made a monumental trade in the middle of the season and it appears to me that they're having a hard time getting together, which is understandable," Walsh said Monday.

Sources say Walsh was not in favor of the deal the Knicks agreed upon with the Nuggets.

"I think the trade will be a good trade in the long run," Walsh said. "It will make us a better franchise and that's why I did it."

Walsh agrees with Anthony that the Knicks need to be patient, but doesn't want to hear excuses that chemistry may not be found until next season.

"I understand what he's saying because he's putting it in the context of really good teams are together for a long time and we're trying to compete against some teams that have been together for a long time. That's an uphill battle at times."
