Ahead of the union's crucial Monday morning meeting about the league's revised proposal, the NBA held a Twitter chat Sunday night and detailed some specifics about its offer to the union.
The NBA stated that the proposal would raise average player salaries from $5 million to nearly $8 million per season (by year 10 of the new CBA).
The league also gave the formula for calculating the luxury tax threshold: 53.5% of BRI, subtract player benefits, divide by 30. Under this formula, the projection for the tax threshold in the third year of the CBA would be $74 million.
When asked why the NBA would make a substantially worse offer to the players if they reject the current proposal, as David Stern and Adam Silver have stated, the NBA gave the following answer: "Teams suffering enormous losses; no choice but to recover if season does not start soon."
