J.R. Smith will become an unrestricted free agent again this summer.

Smith re-signed with the Cavaliers last offseason for two years at $10.3 million. He will forgo his second-year option salary of $5.4 million to explore the opportunities on the open market with the cap expected to jump to $92 million.

Smith started this season at shooting guard as he's outplayed Iman Shumpert.

Smith's deal for 16-17 wouldn't have become fully guaranteed until Sept. 17th had he opted in.
