Joe Lacob was asked about his comment in the New York Times in March about saying the Golden State Warriors are "light years ahead of of probably every other team in structure, in planning, in how we're going to go about things."

Lacob's son, Kirk Lacob, has a high ranking position with the Warriors and has compared his father to the Draymond Green of the front office.

"It wasn't a statement I made directly in an interview situation," said Lacob. "It was to a bunch of my basketball buddies during a morning breakfast and the New York Times reporter was following me around. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. It wasn't an interview at that moment when I said that. I was referring more to our overall organization, our business organization. I love our guys. I love our team. I love our organization. I feel we're one of the best in the league now, which I'm very proud of. Perhaps that statement, unfortunately taken out of context, really made it seem like a direct statement in an interview which I don't think I would ever do. It's not a cool statement to make if you were making it directly as a response in an interview situation.

"Maybe I am more Draymond Green a little bit and less Steve Kerr, who has a great way of deflecting things. I have to be who I am."
