The Oklahoma City Thunder have rescinded their qualifying offer to Dion Waiters, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The Thunder still hold Waiters' Bird Rights and could re-sign him. With several teams still owning cap space, it is unlikely Waiters re-signs with the Thunder.

The move protects cap space for the Thunder if they can persuade Russell Westbrook to renegotiate and extend his contract to eliminate his 2017 free agency.

Oklahoma City have protected themselves against Waiters' departure by trading for Victor Oladipo and signing Alex Abrines.
