The Philadelphia 76ers and doctors involved believe Ben Simmons suffered an "acute injury" unrelated to his weight gain of muscle mass.
The plan is for Simmons to undergo surgery next week for his broken fifth metatarsal.
Simmons suffered the injury during the 76ers' final scrimmage.
