By selecting Devin Harris with the fifth pick in the NBA Draft, the Mavericks may have found their point guard of the future.

The question is how far into the future will Harris be running the Maverick show.

It seems almost any possible player combination from the Maverick roster has already been discussed as the potential package that will bring back Shaquille O?Neal from the Lakers.

Steve Nash could very well be in such a package, so speculation is that Harris was taken for that reason.
But the Mavericks deny it.

"Steve Nash, along with Michael Finley and Dirk Nowitzki, is the heart and soul of the Mavericks," said Maverick president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson.  "We don't take that lightly. We're not kicking him to the side of the curb."

Bill Duffy, Nash?s agent, is skeptical.

"It sounds like they're going in a different direction," Duffy said.  "We'll have to work with it, if that's the case."

Maverick owner Mark Cuban stated a consistent company position.  "Harris will be tutored by Steve, that's the plan," Cuban said.  "Steve is a star. Devin is his backup."
