The NCAA board of directors on Thursday affirmed an April decision to prohibit Division I college coaches from contacting recruits via text message. But a spokesman for the 18 school presidents and chancellors said the issue is far from dead.

David Berst, an NCAA vice president, said on a teleconference from Indianapolis that board members will continue to listen to proposals to work text messaging back into recruiting at a limited level.

"The board recognizes that there must be a better solution other than elimination," Berst said. "But we certainly haven't seen [that] proposal come forward yet."
