Troy Murphy officially signed with the Celtics on Wednesday afternoon and made his introduction to the Boston media prior to the team's game against Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Murphy reached a buyout agreement with Golden State after coming over in a trade with New Jersey. He appeared in just 18 games with the Nets this season due to injuries and an apparent disagreement with coach Avery Johnson.

"Good, excited to be here, looking forward to just getting around the team and just starting up here," Murphy told reporters when asked how it felt to be a member of the Celtics.

Murphy, who is wearing No. 30, made his debut with the team late in the first quarter against the Suns.

The veteran said the Celtics were interested in his ability to spread the floor, among other things.

"I think just the ability to spread the floor and help on the defensive glass. I think, spread things out and let [Rajon] Rondo drive pretty much."

When asked why he decided to sign with Boston over Miami, Murphy pointed to style of play.

"I think it's the way they play. I think watching both teams, I fit in better with the way Boston plays, the way they spread the floor and I just like the way that they play," Murphy said.

He added that making his first playoff appearance was "the most important factor" in his free-agent decision.
