Highly-touted Kentucky freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has started the past five games in place of senior swingman Darius Miller, but recently approached head coach John Calipari with a selfless proposal.

"'‘If I need to come off the bench for Darius, I will. I have no problem,'" Calipari recalls him saying. "That’s the kind of team we have right now. The question is when the lights go on in these big games, do we continue to feel that way? That’s something we’re going to have to see."

Kidd-Gilchrist, a 6-foot-7 forward, is averaging 12.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocked shots per game.

"That’s just who I am," Kidd-Gilchrist said. "I look up to Darius. I look up to his leadership. He is the key to this team, and that’s why I said that. I learned a lot from Darius. He’s my big brother."
