Magic GM Otis Smith told the media on Saturday that Dwight Howard has asked to be traded on two separate occasions this week.

Orlando still hopes to keep Howard long-term, but the team is determined to get something in return rather than risk losing him as a free agent without compensation.

“We wouldn’t be who we are if we don’t take a look around all 29 teams and try to make the best deal for the Orlando Magic,” Smith said.

“He can have his list of teams that he would like to go to, and we’ve probably got a few on our list of teams that we would like,” Smith said. “But at the end of the day, we want him here and we want him in a Magic uniform for his career. With that said, we’re going to make the best possible deal that we can make if we have to trade him.”

The Nets, Lakers and Mavericks all have permission to speak with Howard's agent Dan Fegan.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that Howard has requested a trade to the Nets.
