The Clippers have made a successful big on Chauncey Billups, who was amnestied by the Knicks last week.

Under terms of the league’s amnesty police, any team under the salary cap can put bid on Billups. The Clippers put a bid of just over $2 million for Billups, according to Marc Stein.

The bid will offset part of the $14.2 million the Knicks owe Billups in the final year of his contract.

The Clippers cannot trade Billups this season.

Billups had preferred to become a free agent, which would have allowed him to sign with either the Lakers or Heat.

Because the Clippers acquired Billups, Ken Berger reports that the team can responsibly include Eric Bledsoe in a deal for Chris Paul and not have a depth issue at point guard.
