Mavericks owner Mark Cuban cautioned on Tuesday that while the Mavs will have the salary cap space to add Dwight Howard, Chris Paul or Deron Williams this upcoming summer, don't be surprised if they choose to go in a different direction.

"All of it has that in mind," Cuban said on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM). "But I think what people are misreading into it, everybody thinks it's about getting that one big free agent. I don't know that we're going to go in that direction. The way I look at the market place, with the new CBA, is that the max-out [contract] guys are still going to be the max-out guys, the minimum players are still going to be the minimum players, but everybody in between, and I think there are only 23 max-out guys in the league, everybody else I think is going to be priced a lot lower.

"So you're going to be able to get, I think and this is just my guess, hope, whatever you want to call it, we're going to be able to get some really, really good players. And it might not be that we go for the one superstar. It might be that we go for three or four stars and package them together around Dirk [Nowitzki] and our team and whoever else we bring back. And that gives us flexibility to re-sign current roster guys and to bring in more quality guys as opposed to just shooting for the one guy."

Cuban added: "Dirk's not going away. Dirk's not built on athleticism and [Jason] Kidd will get more rest. But if we can bring in guys that are stars as opposed to guys that are top three or four, there's a lot to be said for that. We'll look at all the options. We're not going to be opposed to bringing in the biggest names, but there's nothing that says that we can't be just as successful building around guys that come in a little less expensively and are 90 percent of the way there and challenged that way. And that I think builds a great foundation going forward."
