Several members of Dwight Howard's inner circle were unaware of his reversal to sign the early termination option waiver to remain with the Magic through the 12-13 season.

In an interview with RealGM, Howard indicated that he would sign the waiver early on Thursday.

Howard changed his mind several times during the course of Wednesday, according to sources, before finally going on the record with Jarrod Rudolph.

The Magic quickly explored trade scenarios with the Nets following his conference call where he said he wouldn't sign the waiver. Orlando isn't expected to suspend trade talks until Howard actually signs the form.

As one Western Conference executive told Yahoo! Sports. “This is a historic debacle.”
