The New York Knicks are close to signing James Singleton and will release Kurt Thomas to make room on the roster.

After averaging 8.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 12 games for the Washington Wizards last season, Singleton spent the past year playing in China.

Thomas, 40, has missed the Knicks' past 12 games because of a stress fracture in his right foot, and he will have surgery next week.
