Free agent guard Jose Calderon has reached agreement with the Dallas Mavericks on a four-year, $29 million contract that is fully guaranteed, his agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM.

Calderon had seriously pondered pitches from the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons, but the opportunity to play with Dirk Nowitzki – as well as under the stability of a long-term deal – enticed him.

Calderon, 31, averaged 11.3 points and 7.1 assists last season, acquired by the Pistons in a trade with the Toronto Raptors. Calderon galvanized the Pistons on the court and in the locker room, but he ultimately believed the Mavericks were further along in the retooling process.
