The Miami Heat have a decision to make during the amnesty period about Mike Miller.

The Heat would save approximately $17 million in luxury tax payments for the coming season if they amnesty Miller.

Pat Riley said he would waive Miller only if he got a “mandate” from owner Micky Arison and CEO Nick Arison.

The Heat have a lot of depth at Miller's position, though he has been particularly valuable in the playoffs.

Miller is owed $12.8 million in the next two seasons and they could wait to amnesty him in 2014. The Heat could also conceivably amnesty LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh if any of those players had a catastrophic injury as they are signed through 15-16 if they don't opt out.
