Carmelo Anthony has made it clear that he will test free agency next offseason, and his former college coach at Syracuse, Jim Boeheim, believes Anthony is right to consider all options.

Ultimately, Boehiem believes, the bottom line to Anthony's free agency will come down to his best chance to win an NBA championship.

"The problem for Carmelo right now, and Kevin Durant, whoever you're talking about, is they're only judged on rings," Boeheim said. "That's it. Everything else is turned into a negative. I know Carmelo loves playing in New York, but the bottom line is it comes down to, 'Where do I have the best chance to win a ring?'"

The Knicks' roster does not provide an answer to that question.

"The Knicks are not going to be favored to get to the Finals this year," Boeheim said, "and that's not a condemnation of anything. If Amar'e Stoudemire had been healthy, and Tyson [Chandler], they'd have a shot at it. But I don't think Stoudemire is anywhere near where he was as a player because of injuries.

"I think the Knicks are a good team, but do I think they can win the NBA championship? No, I don't think so. I guess I'll have to get Knicks fans mad at me again."
