James Dolan is beginning to lose confidence in Mike Woodson as head coach of the New York Knicks, according to sources.

The Knicks have lost nine straight games.

Jeff Van Gundy would be considered as a possible replacement for Woodson. It is unlikely that Van Gundy would take over any job during the middle of the season.

Van Gundy and Dolan were not on speaking terms for several years following his sudden resignation during the 01-02 season, but the two have been cordial when crossing paths last season.

Steve Mills worked with Gundy for two seasons.

Van Gundy would want input on personnel decisions in his next job, according to a source.

Van Gundy is believed to have interest in returning to the Knicks.

“It’s something I regret to this day,’’ Van Gundy said of his resignation. “I live with it every day and I regret it. And I let my emotions come into it. And I was just emotionally spent. I made a bad decision and I quit….I had a great job with the Knicks.’’
