Rupp Arena, home of the Kentucky Wildcats, will undergo a $310 million renovation.

Construction could begin in 2015 and the new Rupp could open in 2017.

The exterior of Rupp Arena will include glass or transparent outer walls that allow for more interaction between the street and what’s going on inside, architects have said.

The interior bowl of Rupp Arena will remain largely the same. The upper bowl will have chair-backed seats, better lighting and its own concourse for food and bathrooms. The slope of the upper deck will be less steep, making it easier to negotiate.

The upper bowl will have to be removed and rebuilt, officials said.

Between the upper and lower decks will be a ring of premium seats, including club seating and open seats that will have perks such as personal servers.
