Former NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin met with the Rockets in Houston on Friday, primarily to discuss a possible coaching staff role, league sources told RealGM.

A free agent after spending the past two seasons with the New York Knicks, Martin also participated in basketball activities on Friday, giving some Rockets players the impression that he still intended to play this season, sources said.

Nevertheless, the Rockets have discussed a coaching position with players -- a development-type role.

Houston has a legitimate roster crunch, but has worked out free agents throughout the past several seasons as an exercise to test players' ability.

Martin, 36, averaged 19.8 minutes, 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 32 games last season. The 6-foot-9 forward has averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds in a 14-year career, in which he became a decorated finisher with the Nets.
