The Dallas Mavericks are the biggest threat to sign LaMarcus Aldridge this offseason, according to sources.

But the general idea of returning to Texas rather than a specific city or team appeals to Aldridge the most at this point.

The San Antonio Spurs are believed to either be off Aldridge's list or not very high on it.

"LaMarcus feels, as all great players do, that wherever he goes he'll have a great chance," a source familiar with his thinking said. "But don't think about this as what makes the most sense. He feels he's been in Portland a long time and that maybe it's time for a change. That's what is driving this."

Aldridge feels like he's played the role of second fiddle throughout his Blazers' career, beginning with Brandon Roy and Greg Oden before Damian Lillard in the current era.

The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are not considered viable candidates to sign Aldridge since he would have to take less money in a more expensive market to join a rebuilding team.
