When Vlade Divac was hired by Vivek Ranadive to join the Sacramento Kings as vice president of basketball and franchise operations, nobody in the organization except those two parties actually understood he would be in a position of power. The rest of the franchise became aware of that part of the hire days after the announcement.

Divac had spent one year as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and it was assumed he be a "glad-hander" instead of a personnel boss.

It was not until Divac told the media he had personnel power and Ranadive confirmed it that the front office knew the significance of the hire.
