The Los Angeles Clippers are discussing a trade to acquire Lance Stephenson from the Charlotte Hornets, according to sources.

The Clippers would send Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes in a proposed deal, which is yet to be considered imminent.

The Hornets have attempted to trade Stephenson since early in his first season with the team.

Stephenson has two years left on his contract, but the 2016-17 season is a team option of $9.4 million.

The Clippers are considering using Stephenson as the primary ballhandler when Chris Paul is out of the game.

Hawes has three years and $17 million-plus left on a free-agent deal that he signed in summer 2014.
