Following the injury to Paul George during a Team USA scrimmage last August, Adam Silver said NBA owners and higher-ups on the league's competition committee would debate the merits of players' participation in international events.

Those discussions are ongoing with a focus on insurance coverage and the general rules for participation in FIBA tournaments.

Teams have the authority to prevent players from participating in summer events if it is determined there is an injury or risk for injury with sources saying a low threshold existing.

But players want to play basketball in the offseason and it is important for their improvement whether it is for their international teams or in five-on-five in Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
