Brandon Williams has been promoted by the Philadelphia 76ers to the newly created position of chief of staff.

Williams will report to Sam Hinkie.

Williams' role will have broader oversight on matters that include player development, agent relations and recruiting.

Jerry Colangelo has sign off on organizational moves involving basketball operations.

Williams worked eight years in the league office, including a stint as the associate vice president of basketball operations. He played parts of three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks in the NBA from 1997-2003.

Williams earned a law degree at Rutgers.
