Danny Ainge is largely responsible for Bob Myers becoming general manager of the Golden State Warriors.

When Joe Lacob was part owner of the Boston Celtics, he became friends with Ainge.

Myers worked with Ainge when he was agent for Kendrick Perkins and Brian Scalabrine.

"When Joe was owner with the Celtics I used to enjoy sitting around and talking to him about basketball. We even sat and discussed the NBA and basketball in preparation of the draft. I always liked his insight," said Ainge.

"And Bob and I had been business associates I guess– he’s been an agent and I was a GM and so I got to know Bob. We became more than that, became pretty good friends. It was just always easy dealing with him. He was a guy that I really got to respect in that side of the business as an agent. I sat with him at a couple of conference tournaments. We just got to know each other very well.

"I knew Bob was from Northern California and I knew he was looking to get out of the business of agenting. He was beginning a young family and I just thought it was a great fit.

"Bob has been a lot of things in his young life and being a terrific agent certainly gave him a real good insight into the NBA and the players and their behaviors; he represented a lot of guys.

"I thought that Bob and Joe would be a really good fit and a good  match. So I called Joe and highly recommended Bob. And then Bob and Joe did the rest."

Ainge sees Myers operating similarly as a GM as he did as an agent.

"He’s pretty much the same. Bob, he’s a pretty well grounded guy. I think the success he’s had hasn’t really gone to his head. He’s just really level headed and very emotionally even keel. Doesn’t have a lot of ups and down.

"I sit with him even now in the same place, same tournament, sit down and watch games together. I enjoy my time with him. He’s done a magnificent job there."
