Adrian Griffin will be hired by the Oklahoma City Thunder to replace Monty Williams on Billy Donovan's staff.

Griffin most recently was an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic and was also a candidate for the job that eventually went to Frank Vogel.

Williams' wife passed away in a February car accident and Donovan announced last week that he wouldn't return in 16-17.

The defensive-minded Griffin, who counts Scott Skiles and Tom Thibodeau among his strongest coaching influences, also has a brief history with the Thunder organization after playing alongside then-rookie Kevin Durant for the last two months of the club's final season in Seattle in 2007-08.
