Anthony Carter has returned to the Miami Heat organization as a coach after a clerical error on his player option ended his tenure with the team.

Carter's agent, Bill Duffy, failed to notify the Heat he would exercise his $4.1 million player option for the 03-04 season.

The mistake cost Carter more than $3 million in lost salary, which Duffy agreed to make up to him. Duffy has been paying Carter in installments over the years.

"In the end it was a blessing," Carter said. "I'm still getting paid from it. Everything happens for a reason and my agent was man enough to stand up and just pay me over a period of time. To this day, I'm still getting paid. I'm still getting paid until 2020."
