The Los Angeles Lakers and Rob Pelinka have agreed upon a multi-year deal for him to become general manager.

Pelinka will join the Lakers' front office now run by Magic Johnson following the dismissal of Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss.

Pelinka was one of the NBA's most powerful agents, representing Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Andre Iguodala and Eric Gordon, amongst others. Pelinka will have to divest his interest in his agency to become GM of the Lakers.

The Lakers initially targeted Bob Myers but he recently signed an extension with the Golden State Warriors.

“I want a [general manager] who understands the CBA, but also understands our team and wants to be here,” Johnson said during his introductory interview with Spectrum SportsNet. “And that also knows players, knows agents, because we're going to need all of that on his resume when he comes to work here.”

Pelinka will be the day-to-day executive running the organization, engineering trades, and coordinating scouting and the draft.
