James Dolan is contemplating the future of Phil Jackson as president of the New York Knicks.

Dolan had the ability to opt out of the contract at the end of the 16-17 season as both sides had a mutual option.

The Knicks hired Jackson on a five-year, $60 million contract in 2014 amid severe criticism from Knicks' fans of Dolan.

Jackson has sought a trade of Carmelo Anthony over the past few months, but his public comments have turned Anthony into a sympathetic figure in the media and with most fans.

Jackson's treatment of Anthony also led, at least in part, to Kristaps Porzingis skipping his exit interview with the Knicks at the end of the season. Jackson has since spoke publicly about exploring the Knicks' options on the trade market for Porzingis.
