The Cleveland Cavaliers prefer to hold onto the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected 2018 first round pick heading into the trade deadline period.

The Cavaliers view that draft asset as a chance to reset the franchise if LeBron James decides to leave as a free agent in July. Cleveland acquired the pick as part of the Kyrie Irving trade last August with the Celtics.

The Nets are currently tied for the seventh worst record in the NBA. Brooklyn won the lottery last May with the pick going to the Celtics.
